Tl;dr - Crafted 1000 rares, got 2 precursors. Sold them for 1500g (ish)
For a bit of fun I was inspired by Rugi to make 1000 rare weapons. Why? To mystic forge them in the hope of a precursor. Well I decided to mix it up, I would make 3 different kinds of weapons because I wasn't aiming for a particular precursor. So I would make Swords, Daggers and Shields.
What was needed to complete the task?
The costs listed above are estimates, and if you were to take on this challenge yourself I highly suggest using buy orders. It maybe a difference of a copper per item but when you are talking 45000 items that could be a small chunk of gold you can save if you just have a little patience. Further to that point, these materials move very fast through out the day, they are very common and your buy orders will come in pretty quickly.
So what was the work flow? Well I couldn't store 1000 weapons at one time, not without a silly gem investment into bag slots. So the plan was -
This allowed me to keep all the crafting components and materials in 1 characters inventory. Most of the crafting was done in this order but a lot of it was , farm some gold, buy some stuff, craft what I could, back to the start. But I only started crafting the weapons when I could make all of them at once. One thing I also invested in before I started was a Mystic Forge Conduit. It's an account bound item that allows me to use the Mystic Forge anywhere. It's around 100g on the Trading Post, a little less if you craft it yourself. I cannot recommend this item enough. I chose to farm a lot of my gold in the silverwastes, and you get a lot of Masterworks and Rares there. It's pretty fun to just pop out the forge and have a mini lottery with those items. Also, when it came to making the 1000 rares and Mystic Forging it meant I could sit by the weaponsmithing station at all times, no need to walk across Lions Arch or GBL every 40 weapons or so. (Just a side note there are 2 versions of the conduit, one is the older version and worth a lot more because it's not account bound, the one I used was around the 100g mark.)
To the Mystic Forge phase. I forged away and the results were 87 Exotics from 332 Forges. 2 Exotics were Precursors - Rodgort's Flame (Torch) and The Legend (Staff). I listed Rodgort's for 275g (250g after fees) and The Legend for 1350g (1215g after fees). It took me an hour or so to get all the forging/crafting complete.

What was needed to complete the task?
- 375 points in Weaponsmithing (Although Huntsman could the same, just something that can make Rare Level 80 weapons)
- 21500 Mithril Ore (130g)
- 12000 Elder Wood Logs (95g)
- 12000 Tier 5 Materials {Fangs, Totems, etc} (255g)
- Access To The Mystic Forge
- Few thousand Karma for the Imbued Inscription recipes.
- Google Docs Spreadsheet (seriously, makes life so much easier when you got the numbers in front of you.)

- Craft 2000 Mithril Plated Dowels (8 Inventory Slots)
- Craft 250 of each Sword Blades, Sword Hilts, Dagger Blades, Dagger Hilts (4 Inventory Slots)
- Craft 500 Shield Boss and Shield Back (4 Inventory Slots)
- Turn The Dowels into 1000 inscriptions as I got the materials.
- After all the crafting components were complete, I would craft 10 Swords, 10 Daggers and 20 Shields at a time and then Mystic Forge The 40 weapons.

I didn't keep these 2 precursors for 2 different reasons, The Legend I didn't keep because I already have a Bifrost and Rodgort's I'm selling because I'm not interested in a legendary torch.
In conclusion, after all is said and done I should be 1275g in the black. I'm estimating I bought 400g worth of materials and the rest I got from harvesting/salvaging/looting. All in all a 875g profit. This was just a fun experiment and it's turned up a good ending for me at least. Maybe I'll do this again at some point but for now I need to figure out how to spend that sweet sweet gold...
In all honesty... it's easier and safer to buy a precursor if you want one but where's the fun in that? I'm looking for more fun projects like this. Anyone with any ideas? Let me know, I'm looking for a new challenge.
