For those who you who want to know nothing about the new things coming to WvW with Heart Of Thorns, it maybe worth stepping away from this post. That's your OFFICIAL SPOILER WARNING.
With that out of the way, HoT will introduce a new claiming system to WvW, and it also introduces new guild upgrades for WvW - Tactics. The way claiming is handled is whatever guild has the largest percentage of players capturing an objective will get first rights to claim it. (Similar to how it is now) Members who can claim in the guild will be given a pop up in game asking if they want to claim, if that guild doesn't claim it goes to the next highest represented guild for the cap and so on. In the Borderlands Stress Test we managed to setup a new GANK guild and were able to get first rights on a keep capture.
With HoT you can click any objective on the map and see information on that objective regardless of where you are on the map. You have 2 tabs, the first shows you the status of the keeps standard upgrades. Here you can also see the objective name, type, team who owns it and what guild has claimed it.
The other tab is the Tactics tab, here you can see available tactics, currently activated tactics and how long before you can activate more. So for the first tier you have to wait 10 minutes. Tier 2 unlocks at 30 minutes and Tier 3 at an hour. Each tier allows you to select 2 tactics.
Here we have held the keep for 10 minutes and I was able to select 2 tactics, 1 passive (always on), 1 activatable tactic (something you can use once every 15 minutes). I chose Hardened Gates for the passive, only siege can damage gates. And Chilling Fog for the active, which perma-chills enemies for 2 minutes within the structure of the objective.
Unfortunately we were unable to hold it much longer but it's an easy to use interface and should be simple enough to figure out in game. Another really cool part of claiming an objective was this...
All NPC's within a claimed objective get your guild tag, here's the fire keeps Lord/Champion with a GANK tag and here's some other guards with the guild tag.
To activate a tactic you can find these levers within the objective and just hit F on them, there's also a check box in the UI that allows the "public" to "Tactivate" upgrades.
Most tactics can be seen by enemies as well as allies, here's hardened gates in action
That's just a brief overview of it in action, and there's plenty of other tactics to look at. Side note, the lobby for the stress test is somewhere in Dredgehaunt Cliffs...
