Just looking on www.gw2bltc.com/ (Thanks John for showing me this site) and it just seems supplies are relatively low after HoT release. Since January the price has bounced around the 4s mark being as low as 3s and as high as 5s 11c. The problem here is the item is in high demand now. Many, many guild hall upgrades require it and it's another victim of Amalgamated Gemstones. I doubt this is a case of 1 person trying to drive up the market.

Oh of course.. It is pretty weird how many 250 buy orders there are though. Maybe I'll wait and see if it comes back down again, probably buy it again when it's back down to 3s. If not I guess I'm spending more gold. >_<

This is a really nice video about some basic gold making stuff in GW2. Worth a watch and you'll likely learn a few simple tricks from this.

Currencies
Hey all, today's post is a quick piece on in game currencies. There's a been a few times where a guildie is low on gold and looking to buy something and they don't realise how much gold they're sitting on in other currencies. For example here is my wallet, you can access this in game by opening your inventory and clicking the coin icon in the bottom left of the window.
As you can see I'm a little low on gold but I have other currencies. Let's look at them one by one and see what we can get from them.
Gems - This is easy to explain, most of you know you can exchange gems for gold directly. It's hits your ACTUAL wallet a bit more though. Karma - Karma conversion is a bit of an effort, usually the most profitable way to get gold from karma is to buy 4 pieces of armour with Karma, place them in the Mystic Forge and salvage the resulting drop. If you want to do this a lot, a Mystic Forge node purchase is a good idea, allowing you to use the Mystic Forge anywhere you are. GW2Efficiency Karma List Spirit Shards - I've been through the Spirit Shard process before here in this thread and the techniques described there will still work fine. Transmutation Charges - There is nothing that can be made with Transmutation Charges Badges Of Honor - Right now you can make 1s per badge. If you go to the Guild Hall and visit Davis the Survivor in the War Room and spend 30 badges for 1 Badge of Tribute, it can be sold for 30s on the TP. GW2Efficiency Badges Of Honor List Fractal Relics - There is nothing of note that you can convert into a worthwhile gold amount. However you can save some gold by buying 20 slots equipment boxes here instead of bags on the TP. Pristine Fractal Relics - Same here really, although you can buy Ascended Rings for 10 or if you're low on normal relics you can convert 1 Pristine in 15 regular Relics. Guild Commendations - There's a few things on offer that can be converted, the Guild Trader inside the Guild Hall will sometimes offer Bolts of Embroidered Silk. They cost 1 Commendation each, and can sell for around 90s, there is also another option inside the Guild HQ in Lions Arch you can buy a Sentinel's Intricate Gossamer Insignia for 10 commendations and will sell for around 11.5g currently. GW2Efficiency Commendation List Geodes - This one is pretty simple, head to dry top, get a tier 4 or above and buy as many Bricks Of Clay as you can. Then hop on a 400 Artificer and make a Clay Pot. You can make 1 per day but you can sell it for over 9g and make an easy 5g profit. Bandit Crests - If you are willing to chest farm buy Bandit Skeleton Keys, if not, at the moment purchasing Sandy Bags of Gear is the way to go. Simply open the bags, salvage the drops. You're going to get a bit more from salvaging the drops and sometimes you'll get rares. However if the price of T5 materials keeps rising it maybe better to buy Bags of Stolen Goods. Airship Parts - Unfortunately you can't buy crowbars with parts. There is one possible option in Heavy Thorned Bags which can drop T6 materials, however it's 60 parts and 3s20c. I'd be wary of investing a lot of parts in this, there's not a lot of data on the drop rates from these bags. GW2 Wiki Drop Rate Data Lumps Of Aurillium - Exalted Keys, do Octovine, open Exalted Chests, Lootshare, open more chests, buy more keys. etc. Lots of rares from the chests here. Ley Line Crystals - Similar to Aurillium, Vials Of Chak Acid, complete Chak Gerent pre meta chains, open Caches, do Chak Gerent, buy more Acid, repeat. Magnetite Shards - I'm not sure how much of the items purchased with Shards are tradable, but, if you were to get to 1000 shards you could buy a ghostly infusion for 20g and sell it in the tp for around 400g. However that would take 7 weeks of capped shards, as you can only earn 150 per week. Proofs of Heroics - You can buy Superior Siege and sell on the TP. You'll make around 3.5s per proof. Check the Badges of Honor link above and scroll all the way down. Provisioner Tokens - No, just, no. Don't waste your time. Dungeon Tokens - There's a fair few options here, you can buy armours/weapons and salvage them hoping to get Insignia/Inscription drops. If you're feeling lucky you can also buy weapons and mystic forge them and hope you get a precursor. GW2Efficiency Dungeon Tokens Lists Laurels - Heavy Crafting Bags, open and sell the materials. You'll make over 1g per Laurel easy. PvP Tickets - Nothing at this time will make you any money WvW Tickets - Unobtainable currency at this time.
And I think that's it. So I advise everyone to check your wallet and have a look at what currency you are actually sitting on, you may have a lot more gold than you realise. As always feel free to discuss this here.
Edit : Thanks to Rugi for the information on PvP Tickets.
